Business Development Manager, FMCG

Auckland or Sydney
Life at Ideally

Full job description

Business Development Manager, FMCG

About Ideally

The research industry is being rebuilt from the ground up and Ideally is building the platform at the centre of it. A $30bn market is shifting away from slow, agency-led research toward always-on software that enables faster, repeatable decisions at a fraction of the cost.

We're one of New Zealand's fastest-growing startups, recently closed a Series A, and are scaling into the US. This is an opportunity to help define a category, build a high-growth market, and have a direct impact on the trajectory of a company with global ambition.

Why work at Ideally

Ideally is a high-performance, high-care environment built for people who want to do the most meaningful work of their career.

We move quickly, set a high bar, and trust our people to own outcomes, not just execute tasks. As we continue to scale, you'll have the opportunity to shape how we grow, solve complex commercial challenges, and make a visible impact on the business.

If you're energised by autonomy, continuous learning, ambitious teammates, and building something category-defining, you'll thrive here.

About this role

This is a new-business role for someone who understands how FMCG brands make decisions and knows how to open doors with brand, category, marketing, innovation and insights leaders.

As Business Development Manager, you’ll own APAC new-business growth: building outbound pipeline, opening doors, and converting commercial opportunities into revenue. You’ll sell to FMCG brand, category, marketing, innovation and insights leaders who need faster ways to understand consumers and make better decisions.

You’ll come from one of two backgrounds:

  • FMCG-facing commercial sales; media, shopper marketing, brand partnerships, agency, martech or marketing services selling into brand, category, marketing or innovation teams.

  • Insights, data or SaaS sales; selling platforms, research or tools that help marketing, insights, innovation or category leaders make better consumer-led decisions.

What you’ll own

  • Build outbound pipeline across APAC priority markets

  • Win net-new logos and convert pipeline into revenue

  • Run discovery, demos, proposals, and commercial conversations

  • Sell into FMCG brand, category, marketing, innovation and insights teams

  • Represent Ideally through targeted events, networks, and market conversations

What you'll bring

  • Strong understanding of the FMCG sector, with credibility selling to brand, category, innovation, marketing or insights leaders

  • Proven new-business sales success across SaaS, research, consumer insights, data, martech, adtech, media, agency, or marketing services

  • A track record of winning net-new logos without relying on warm leads

  • Strong consultative selling across discovery, objection handling, negotiation, and close

  • Pace, resilience, commercial discipline, and comfort building in a scale-up

Where you'll work

This role is based in Auckland or Sydney.

What we offer as perks

  • Competitive rewards and upside, including salary and meaningful ESOP. This role will be base + commission, with a 50/50 split.

  • Growth and progression, with stretch opportunities and exposure as we scale

  • Flexibility and autonomy, with a hybrid model and focus on impact rather than hours

  • Support that matters, including paid parental leave, fertility support schemes, and wellbeing resources

  • A fun, social environment, including our annual company-wide offsite ThinkFest

Perks are table stakes for us. What truly defines Ideally is our high-performance, high-care culture, the calibre of people, the ownership they're given, and the chance to help shape an industry.

Who should apply

This role is suited to someone who is a true new-business hunter with a strong understanding of the FMCG sector and you can open doors, create demand, and sell consumer insights technology into brand, category, marketing, innovation or insights teams.

If this excites you, we'd like to hear from you, even if your experience doesn't perfectly match every requirement. We care more about judgement, capability, and how you think than a checklist of credentials.

We also know from research that female and non-binary applicants are less likely to apply unless they feel 100% qualified. If that's you, please take this as your nudge to apply anyway. Focus on the bullet points that reflect your strengths and experience, not the ones that don't.
